Comprehensive Evaluations for ADHD

for Children and Adults

ADHD evaluations are necessarily comprehensive, as context is imperative to achieving an accurate diagnosis.

Context is incredibly important in diagnosing ADHD, and requires a trained clinical eye for a multitude of reasons:

1. ADHD and Anxiety and Learning Disabilities are about equally prevalent in childhood, and both can lead to externalized behaviors (e.g., not completing tasks, defiance, emotion dysregulation, temper tantrums, displays of anger, yelling, aggressive behaviors)

2. Variability in behavior and emotion regulation underlies ADHD, meaning it may look like a child can  complete tasks, focus, compliance, and be regulated at times, and this doesn't mean they don't have ADHD.  Patterns of when people with ADHD do better at these skills (focusing) and struggle more with these skills (focusing) is required to accurately assess for ADHD.
